FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga Holds International Studium Generale, Discusses Halal Products and Consumer Behavior

Yogyakarta, May 20, 2025 — The Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI) of the State Islamic University (UIN) Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta has once again demonstrated its commitment as a center for the development of modern and cross-disciplinary Islamic knowledge by holding an international academic activity entitled International Studium Generale. The event, which was held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 09.30 to 11.30 WIB at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Library, carried the theme "Quranic Purity and Consumer Behavior: A Multidisciplinary Approach to Halal Product Acceptance and Compliance". This theme reflects the integration of the values of the Qur'an with the dynamics of modern consumer behavior in responding to issues of halal products.

In the context of globalization and increasing awareness of the importance of halal products, this studium generale is a strategic forum to discuss how the value of purity in the Qur'an influences Muslim consumer behavior. A multidisciplinary approach is considered important in addressing the challenges of acceptance and compliance with halal products, which are now an important part of the global economy and international halal industry strategy.

This activity presents two competent speakers from within and outside the country. Dr. Siti Sarah Izham, an academic from Malaysia who is widely known in the field of halal studies and Muslim consumer behavior, delivered theoretical perspectives and contemporary research results. Meanwhile, Galuh Tri Pambekti, M.E.K., CRMP., a practitioner and academic from Indonesia, highlighted aspects of risk management and compliance in the halal industry. Both presented data-based thinking and field experience, enriched with perspectives from the disciplines of economics, sociology, and Islamic theology.

This event was officially opened by Dr. Darmawan, representative of the leadership of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga, who in his speech emphasized the importance of cross-country and cross-disciplinary academic collaboration to address increasingly complex religious issues. This scientific discussion was dynamically guided by Fahmi Firmansyah, who succeeded in creating an atmosphere of interactive and reflective dialogue among the participants.

This activity also received support from various sponsors, such as Aruna, Bumi Aksara, and Bank Syariah Indonesia (BSI), which reflects the synergy between the academic world and the halal industry. This collaboration emphasizes that the halal issue is a shared responsibility between academics, industry players, and the wider community.

With the holding of this International Studium Generale, FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga reaffirms its role as a pioneer of scientific dialogue rooted in Islamic values and open to innovative global thinking. This activity is a concrete step in forming a generation of Muslim academics who are inclusive, critical, and competitive at the international level.
