Islamic Financial Management Workshop Empowers Students for Thesis Success

On Monday, June 20, 2022, faculty members from the Islamic Financial Management (IFM) program at the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, together with the Islamic Financial Management Student Association (HMPS-MKS), organized a Research Workshop for IFM students of the 2019 cohort (Semester VI). The workshop aimed to explain the stages and procedures for submitting and writing a thesis or final project correctly.

In his opening remarks, Izra Berakon, M.Sc., CIPM, appointed as the Chairperson, conveyed that the main objective of this workshop is to act as a bridge, connecting the Metopen course and Financial Seminar with the stages of thesis writing, starting from the proposal title submission (supervised by the Academic Advisor and Program Head) and Proposal Seminar (supervised by the Academic Supervisor) to the final phase known as Munaqosyah. Students attending the seminar were required to register before the seminar commenced.

The first session was led by Dr. H. M. Yazid Afandi and Sunarsih, M.Sc., moderated by Mrs. Muhfiatun, M.E.I. The second session was conducted by Dr. Abdul Qoyum, moderated by Anniza Citra Prajasari, M.A. The third session continued with Lu’liyatul Mutmainah, M.Sc., moderated by Shulhah Nurullaily, M.E.I. After a break, the fourth session featured Rizaldi Yusfianto, M.M., with guidance from Ratna Sofiana, M.Si. Subsequently, the fifth session had Rizqi Umar Al Hashfi, M.Sc., as a speaker and Hilmy Baroroh, M.E.K., as the moderator. The pinnacle of the event was the sixth session, where Dr. Darmawan presented the material, moderated by Furqonul Haq, M.E.I., concluding the series of research workshop sessions.

In essence, there are two keywords representing the essence of this workshop: Engagement and Acceleration. Faculty members of the Islamic Financial Management program shared data and facts about best practices as Thesis Advisors and Examiners during Munaqosyah sessions. This approach aims to minimize common minor and major errors made by students when writing their theses in the future. Finally, through this event, it is hoped that all faculty members can provide support and motivation to students, making them more prepared, focused, and, of course, not losing direction in their career and academic journey.

At the end of the seminar, a documentation session took place between the faculty members of the Islamic Financial Management program and the students who attended the seminar. The seminar is expected to have a positive impact on students in implementing the presented material. Additionally, it is hoped that this seminar will facilitate students in successfully completing their theses or final projects.
