Yogyakarta, October 12, 2026. The Islamic Financial Management Study Program (MKS), Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta, held the final session of the Team-Teaching on Risk Management on Monday (October 12, 2026), as part of the Faculty Exchange academic collaboration program with the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Malaysia. Held online via Microsoft Teams, the event supports efforts to broaden students' international perspective while strengthening their competence in Islamic financial risk management.
Academic Collaboration between UIN Sunan Kalijaga and UiTM Malaysia
The ACIS-FEBI Faculty Exchange program is an academic collaboration between UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta and UiTM Malaysia that offers a cross-country learning perspective. Through this collaboration, students have the opportunity to study Islamic financial risk management with an academic approach and an international perspective, while also becoming familiar with the practice of developing risk catalogs that are aligned with international standards.
The event featured Dr. Siti Nor Amira Mohamad from the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia, as the course facilitator. The Malaysian academic's presence gave students room to broaden their insights, discuss risk management concepts, and develop an understanding of how risk management frameworks are applied in decision-making.
Learning Objectives of Islamic Financial Risk Management
The Islamic Financial Risk Management course in this Faculty Exchange program is designed to strengthen students' understanding of how to identify, classify, assess, and relate various risks. One learning focus is developing a risk catalog based on international standards.
Through this learning, students are encouraged not only to recognize potential risks, but also to understand their significance, relationships among risks, and implications for decision-making. This approach helps students see risk management as an integrated process, rather than merely the separate activity of identifying risks.
Understanding Risk through the Integrated Risk Mapping Approach
One of the materials shown in the learning documentation was Integrated Risk Mapping, a structured visual approach to understanding risk exposure, relative importance, and the interrelations among risks.
In the material, risk mapping is explained through three main pillars. First, risk identification, which means recognizing what can happen and the factors that may trigger a risk. Second, risk classification and assessment involves determining the type of risk and assessing its significance to help set priorities. Third, risk interrelation, which means understanding how one risk can affect or amplify another.
These three pillars form a decision-support ecosystem. Through this approach, students are encouraged to understand that risks can be interconnected and that risk mapping supports the decision-making process, rather than guaranteeing that all material risks have been identified.
Final Team-Teaching: Strengthening Academic Synergy between the Two Institutions
The final Team-Teaching session between ACIS and FEBI on October 12, 2026, began with remarks from both institutions' leaders. Remarks were delivered by Prof. Dr. S. Salahudin Suyurno, Dean of the Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), UiTM Shah Alam, Malaysia, and Prof. Dr. Misnen Ardiansyah, Dean of the Faculty of Islamic Economics and Business (FEBI), UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta.
Next, Dr. Siti Nor Amira Mohamad facilitated the learning session as part of the series of academic collaboration activities. Event documentation shows the online learning process, with material presented through presentation slides that supported concept delivery and discussion during the lecture.
The event also allowed students to broaden their perspective on Islamic financial risk management through academic interaction across institutions and countries. Through collaborative learning, students are expected to develop a more systematic way of thinking to identify, assess, and understand the interrelation of risks, preparing them to face increasingly complex financial issues.
Commitment to Collaboration and the Internationalization of Education
The Final Team-Teaching on Risk Management underscores the importance of international collaboration in improving learning quality in higher education. The cooperation between the MKS Study Program of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga and ACIS UiTM Malaysia creates space for exchanging academic perspectives and strengthening students' competence in Islamic financial risk management.
Through this Faculty Exchange program, the MKS Study Program of FEBI UIN Sunan Kalijaga continues to expand students' learning experiences and strengthen the international orientation of its educational process. This collaboration is expected to become a foundation for developing learning that is relevant, adaptive, and able to address the challenges of risk management in an ever-evolving financial environment.
